I am the Vine and You are the Branches~ John 15:5 Bible Journaling

Hello again!
Today's journaling is a quick one since it's Saturday and a holiday!
Happy Independance Day!

John 15:5, Jesus says that He is the Vine and we are the branches.
I love the significance of this because it shows that we are truly reliant upon Him!

If we allow him to be our sole source of nutrients we can abide in Him and walk with Him instead of looking to other sources.

I'm so quick to find fault with my journaling today.  My e is upside down (oops!) and I'm not the greatest stamper.  (I've only been doing this for a few weeks) but I can honestly say that I had fun with this page and love it despite all of it's faults!

I made some punch tabs last night and love this little bird!

Here's a full half page shot...

And a close up of the full motif!

Let's abide in Him!

Envy is like Rottenness to the Bones~Proverbs 14:30~Bible Journaling

Envy.
It's like poison.
It will eat you up from the inside, weakening your bones until you don't have the strength to stand.
It weakens you to the core.
In Proverbs 14:30 it says that  envy is like rottenness to the bones.
That's quite a vivid picture.
Envy is a feeling of discontenment or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities or luck.

The main focus of envy is usually things that other people own.
Isn't it easy to become entranced with things that others have or own which only breeds discontent in our lives?
Shiny new cars.
A huge diamond wedding ring.
A luxury home in a great neighborhood.
All of these things can become the object of our envy.

I really feel the need to say that I don't think it's wrong to have any of these things but it all boils down to motive.
Do I want a new car to keep up with the Joneses who live next door?
Do I want bigger caratage in my wedding ring so people can ooh and ahhhh over it?
Will my luxury home simply be a blessing from God that helps me cultivate a wonderful family life or will it be something that I want other's to envy me for and to impress them with?

I really believe motives matter!

The Jews were commanded by the Lord to wear Phylacteries to help them remember the written word of the Lord.   God commanded it to help them keep his laws in the forefront of their minds and as a reminder that they were set apart and holy, God's chosen people.  (see Matthew 23)

The Pharisees took that wonderful, God given tool, and corrupted it with fallen motives.
They made it carnal, fleshly.

They made their phylacteries larger so they would look more holy. They wanted the tassels/borders of their garments to be wider than those of other people to stand out and look religious.

They wanted others to envy them.
They wanted to be seen of men.

For the past few years, part of my journey in the Lord has been focusing on my motives and keeping them holy before Him.  It sure makes decisions and battles easier when I can judge between my pure and unjust motives.

I'd love my spiritual bones to be as strong and healthy as they possibly can!  And that includes kicking envy to the curb and replacing it with the pure motives of the Lord!

About this jounaling:
I had some bleed through from the previous page so decided to cover the page with some cheap 50 cent white acrylic paint to hide it.  After that I stenciled on the green checkerboard and used stickers for the scripture.  I've never used stickers before so it was quite the adventure in applying them.  Lastly,  I added the skeleton at left by tracing it with graphite paper.

Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty~ 2 Corinthians 3:17~ Bible Journaling

Happy 4th of July!
I've cleaned the living room today, mowed most of our lawn and did a quick journaling this afternoon.
We're headed out to worship very soon and then we're going to watch the fireworks display at our local high school.
My macro lens shows every detail of my mistakes.  :)

Supplies:
Mechanical pencil
Micron pens
matte medium gel
Twistables Crayons

Only by Pride Comes Contention~ Proverbs 13:10 Bible Journaling

Good Morning!
This week, I saved up all of my pennies,  got a coupon and went and splurged on a Tim Holtz stamp set.
And WHO loses the lowercase 'i' on her first journaling and STILL can't find it?
Why...that would be me!  :)
I had to improvise and make an i from the j.
Hopefully it will show up soon!
This verse in Proverbs speaks volumes!
Only by PRIDE comes contention.
All the arguing.
All of the bickering.
The desire to need to be right.
The need to have the preeminence.
The pettiness of holding grudges and the list goes on...

What is the ROOT of all those works of the flesh?
You got it!  PRIDE!
 But there is a solution!
James 4:6 says,  "But he giveth more grace.  Wherefore he saith,  God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
If we yield ourselves in humility, God gives us grace.
And more grace.
Here's a final shot of the entire page open.
The heart motif at left was made to cover a bit of bleed through on a previous journaling.

Love Covers All Sin~ Proverbs 10:12/ Using cheap Acrylic Paints in my Bible Journaling

Happy Monday!!!

Proverbs 10:12b says
"Love covereth all sins."

I'm so grateful for Jesus, and his sacrifice that he made for me.
His precious blood has covered my sin!

What a wonderful God we serve!

After I did the above journaling verse, I decided to try some acrylic paints on my Bible on the same page.  You know those cheapy 49 cents acrylic paints that you can buy at Walmart in assorted colors?  That's exactly what I used and I'm very pleased with the results!   I had purchased some (pretty expensive) watercolor pencils, and compared to those,  I love the acrylic paints MORE!  Go figure!

For each drop or two of acrylic paint,  I added a drop of matte gel medium and mixed it up before applying it to my bible page.   I don't even think it's neccesary  to add matte gel medium since the paint doesn't have a high water content and doesn't seep into the page.

I went through my scant washi collection and found this pretty stripey tape to add to the sides.  Oh how I love the pop of color and how vibrant it is!

If you look on the flip side of the page,  you can see that there is a bit of ghosting but not any more then the text from the opposite page.

It is MUCH less then using the watercolor pencils.

A Just Weight~ Proverbs 11:1 Bible Journaling

A super quick post today on my Proverbs 11:1.

A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.

I've been thinking of this verse and how honesty comes into play in a Christian's life.

2 Corinthians 8:21 says
Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

In today's society, honesty is a rare thing.  It seems like it's much easier to lie then it is to tell the truth.  God's Spirit living in us can give us the strength we need to overcome lying.  Amen to that!

I picked up some stamps at Michael's and it was my first time working with them.  Then I used watercolor pencils.

It seems like my journaling is either hit or miss with my level of satisfaction.   But I'm still having fun creating and reading~!
