The Quality of Being Grateful!

It's no doubt that gratitude can change our attitude, our day and our lives.
Instead of looking to the elusive dreams and wants of what we could have/should have it's nice to take a look at our loved ones and surroundings through eyes of gratefulness.
What is it that makes you grateful today?
We often overlook those wonderful things on a daily basis.

I've been challenged by Jenn to share a few moments that have gotten me through this year.  I'd like to expand that to moments and things and I've got 10 of them to share with you today!
1.  Can I be grateful for gratitude?
Seems a bit redundant, doesn't it?
I am trying to cultivate a daily intentional effort to see past the mundane and see my life through new eyes!

2.  Oh how I love music!  I play the guitar and piano and have a love of all things acoustic.  When I was a young girl, music moved me in a way that words couldn't and it's still the same today.  What can be better than poetry and music expressed as a song?  I love acoustic/guitar driven worship music that focuses on lifting up the Lord.

3. I've been delving into the world of paper planning and I can clearly see the improvement of my memory and calendar schedule.  I was trying to do the digital thing for years but it never reinforced those dates and times into my brain.  Writing my dates and to do lists on my monthly spread, on a weekly spread, and referring to it on a daily basis, has helped me see that my memory isn't as bad as I thought!  It really makes a difference for me!
You can see my planning posts HERE.

4 Bible Journaling has become a wonderful way of worship to me.  I'm not artsy or craftsy but I do love to express myself.
You can see some of my journaling HERE.

5  I love photography and I carry my camera with me everywhere I go.  I love to think creatively and see beauty in ordinary every day life.  Capturing that 'perfect' moment is something that I strive for and brings me great joy.
You can see some of my work HERE

6  In March of 2013 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.  I know for many it's a horrible disease with tragic side effects but for me it's been a means to a positive end.  I've been able to control my blood sugar levels by diet and my glucose numbers are within normal parameters without any meds or insulin.   I've also lost 45 pounds as a result of changing my diet.  I'm not glad to say I have diabetes but I am glad that it's caused me to re-evalulate my health and life and make positive changes while avoiding side effects.

7  Clean Eating has been a game changer for me and has revolutionized my life.  I was once plagued with asthma, bronchitis, acid reflux, an ulcer, bad knees and being overweight.  I still have about 30 more pounds to go but upon changing my diet all of those symptoms and sicknesses that are mentioned above have gone away.  I never realized that what we put into our bodies has such an incredible effect on how they function.  AMAZING!

8  My wonderful family (both my real family and church family) has been such a blessing to me!  I am so grateful for them!

9 Words cannot describe how much I love and appreciate my husband.  We've been through so much together and I am so honored to be his wife and companion of over 25 years.  He is a wonderful man!

10  My wonderful family (both my real family and church family) has been such a blessing to me!  I am so grateful for them!

11  I know this list is 10 things but I'm going to throw in a bonus because this last one is the most important to me.  I am so grateful for the Love of God.  Time and time again the Lord has proven Himself faithful in so many ways.  His wonderful mercy has lifted me out of the depths of despair and He has done wonderful miracles for me.

I've got a daily gratitude challenge going over on my facebook page so please join me!

Plan with Me~ October 2014~ Part 1

The month of October was a super busy one for us.
I made layouts for my planner, but due to traveling to a church conference and a quick visit to family, I didn't do much in them.
I'd still like to share them anyhow with my planner friends and I did eek out a bit of creativity in them as far as scrapping is concerned.

At my local scrapbook shop I found some Illustrated Faith Scrapbook paper that I cut out and used in my planner.
Oh how I love it!
Added some chipboard cutouts and some washi...
This cute little sticker came from the clearance section of Hobby Lobby for my weekly view.
I was going for a vintage traveling theme.
Since I didn't do much planning that week I decided to scrapbook some pics in of my sweet sister and my nieces and nephew since
we got to spend some time together.
As much as I loved traveling and visiting with friends and family,  there is nothing like hanging your hat in your own home and having your own bed to sleep in.
Home Sweet Home!!!

Crown Point Antique Shops~ A Connection to the Past

I recently took some dear friends to Crown Point to browse around and go antique window shopping.  Downtown Crown Point is home to a wonderful little community with a vintage feel.

I love antiques and walking through the many stores is like walking through time and seeing all of the wonderful little knick knacks and goodies that once held a special place in the heart of the owner.
Since I've been a kid,  I've always loved antiques.
They give a sense of connection to the past.
As much as these fancies tell a story, they also leave much of the story untold.
I can't help but wonder who it is that owned these wonderful little treasures!

Where could these have been worn?  A dinner party?  A ball?  A night at the Opera?
I wonder where this little gal sat in a house and if she was once a special gift.
This sweet girl in pink is one of my favorites from the day.
This hatbox is faux~vintage but still adorable nonetheless.

From Europe?  Perhaps these Delft knick nacks were hand carried over from Europe?
If you're like me,
you can't help but wonder about the stories they could tell!
If only they could talk!

This picture of the Crown Point County Courthouse was taken a few years back in the harsh cold of winter.  I nearly froze to death in getting this shot!

Crawford Steel Company~ Graffiti Wall in Brighton Park, Chicago Illinois

I love architecture.   And I love street art.  The colors,  the design, the creativity... it's mesmerizing!  And very photographable!

Last year, when the snow was still on the ground, we did a drive by (pun intended!) to Chicago at Crawford Steel Company. It's a dynamite area in Brighton Park where the Steel Mill allow prominent and upcoming graffitti artists to tag predeterined footage along the outside perimeter of their building.

The murals even extend to the overpasses of the freeway and it's awesome eye candy!

I'd love to go and visit on the day(s) that they are actually doing the painting and take pictures of the works in progress.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's that time of year!  When colder weather moves in and we celebrate the things which we are most thankful for.  I've got so much to be grateful for and to summarize it in a blog post is nearly impossible but I'm going to give it a shot.
 1.  God~  He's been there for me in the darkest times and literally carried me through some big trials.  It was in those lowest times that I felt Him and knew He was with me in ways that are most precious.
2~  My husband~  Life came to a screeching halt 2 1/2 years ago when my husband had 3 brain aneurysm, one of which hemmoraghed.  The fact that he is absolutely normal with no brain damage or memory loss is a true testimony to the wonderful miracle that God has allowed us to experience.  I am so grateful every day.  Every day is precious.
3.  Friends~  There are those people in life who you have your back.  They know all your faults but lovingly encourage you to better and be more.  They've stood behind me and held me up in prayer when I had no strength to go on.  It's genuine friends that I am so grateful for!

4.  Family~  They've taught me genuine compassion and life lessons that were invaluable.  My Dad was carefree and spontaneous and my Mom showered me with genuine love.  I am blessed with sisters and brothers,  nephews and nieces and I'm glad to be on this journey of life with them.

5.~  The mundane things of life.   Waking up next to my husband with his favorite song as an alarm tone.  The smell of brewed coffee.  The sound of Shane and Shane playing guitar with their tight harmonies on my stereo.   Being able to sleep in.  The list goes on....

Happy Thankgiving to you!!!   Know that you are loved!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day!  What a blessing Mom's are to us!

Surely, all that they do for us can never be fully known.  And if you have your Mom with you here on this earth, do count your blessings and hug her very tight!

I took this photo last week and decided to make some bookmarks for all of
our Mom's who attend our church.
After a little cropping and adding text, here is what I came up with.

I put two side by side and these are printable on a 4 by 6 image.
You are more than welcome to download this and send it to your nearest retail photograph place (Walgreens etc) for a gift if you like.  Make sure you click on the image in this blog post and then click on it again so it is very high resolution.  Right click on the image and click 'save as'.  I usually save things to my desktop and then sort later.

Happy Mother's Day!

Have a Lovely Day!!!

Of Grafitti, Korean food, Date nights and Eggs.

The hubs and I have been doing our rounds around town lately~

From downtown Chicago...
...to a Korean grocery store where we ate a late dinner of bibimbap...
...to a date at an Italian Restaurant over in North West Indiana with a gift certificate from a friend...
I also did a few re~edits of previously shot images.

Last year I visited the Pacific Science Center in Seattle and the butterfly garden was incredible.
And this was taken in our backyard last Spring.
And lately I did a study in 3/4 lighting in my dining room right using window light.
It might seem silly but I LOVE this image!
What about you?  What have you been up to lately?

Happy Valentines Day!

Wishing you a wonderful Valentines Day spent with the ones you love.

This morning I took out the tripod and some thrifted lace and played around with this sweet little Valentine motif on the floor of the living room.  You can tell I didn't pull out the iron.  ha!

Love isn't the big things that people do... the hearts, the greeting cards or the chocolate.  It's the little things that go unnoticed day to day...the small favors and acts of kindness that make the day worthwhile and bring a smile to my face.

Do all things in love!
