Only by Pride Comes Contention~ Proverbs 13:10 Bible Journaling

Good Morning!
This week, I saved up all of my pennies,  got a coupon and went and splurged on a Tim Holtz stamp set.
And WHO loses the lowercase 'i' on her first journaling and STILL can't find it?
Why...that would be me!  :)
I had to improvise and make an i from the j.
Hopefully it will show up soon!
This verse in Proverbs speaks volumes!
Only by PRIDE comes contention.
All the arguing.
All of the bickering.
The desire to need to be right.
The need to have the preeminence.
The pettiness of holding grudges and the list goes on...

What is the ROOT of all those works of the flesh?
You got it!  PRIDE!
 But there is a solution!
James 4:6 says,  "But he giveth more grace.  Wherefore he saith,  God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
If we yield ourselves in humility, God gives us grace.
And more grace.
Here's a final shot of the entire page open.
The heart motif at left was made to cover a bit of bleed through on a previous journaling.

Love Covers All Sin~ Proverbs 10:12/ Using cheap Acrylic Paints in my Bible Journaling

Happy Monday!!!

Proverbs 10:12b says
"Love covereth all sins."

I'm so grateful for Jesus, and his sacrifice that he made for me.
His precious blood has covered my sin!

What a wonderful God we serve!

After I did the above journaling verse, I decided to try some acrylic paints on my Bible on the same page.  You know those cheapy 49 cents acrylic paints that you can buy at Walmart in assorted colors?  That's exactly what I used and I'm very pleased with the results!   I had purchased some (pretty expensive) watercolor pencils, and compared to those,  I love the acrylic paints MORE!  Go figure!

For each drop or two of acrylic paint,  I added a drop of matte gel medium and mixed it up before applying it to my bible page.   I don't even think it's neccesary  to add matte gel medium since the paint doesn't have a high water content and doesn't seep into the page.

I went through my scant washi collection and found this pretty stripey tape to add to the sides.  Oh how I love the pop of color and how vibrant it is!

If you look on the flip side of the page,  you can see that there is a bit of ghosting but not any more then the text from the opposite page.

It is MUCH less then using the watercolor pencils.

A Just Weight~ Proverbs 11:1 Bible Journaling

A super quick post today on my Proverbs 11:1.

A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.

I've been thinking of this verse and how honesty comes into play in a Christian's life.

2 Corinthians 8:21 says
Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

In today's society, honesty is a rare thing.  It seems like it's much easier to lie then it is to tell the truth.  God's Spirit living in us can give us the strength we need to overcome lying.  Amen to that!

I picked up some stamps at Michael's and it was my first time working with them.  Then I used watercolor pencils.

It seems like my journaling is either hit or miss with my level of satisfaction.   But I'm still having fun creating and reading~!

Wisdom has built her house~ Bible Journaling (Proverbs 9:1a)

Yesterday's journaling came from the first portion of Proverbs 9:1a which reads:
Wisdom hath builded her house.
I drew it on paper in pencil, covered it in ink then traced it into my bible.
I wanted this to look like my drawings as a kid (and they STILL look like this!) and love the result.
Since I was pinched for time yesterday it was a quick journaling and took less then ten minutes.Just the way I like it!  :)

Your Mercy turns us into Grateful People

I've been thinking about gratitude lately.
In the best of times and the worst of times,  I've found that cultivating a spirit of gratitude allows me to have peace in even the most difficult situations.  It assures my heart that God is in control.
Psalm 86:3
Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.
When the mercy of God is alive in our hearts it refocuses us from being dissatisfied and self centered to giving gratitude and praise.
We all know the account of the 9 lepers that didn't say thank you to the Lord. Perhaps the 9 ran to their families to share the wonderful news of their healing?  I sure hope so!

The 10th leper  took the time to make his way back to Jesus to say thank you.  A simple act of thanks and courtesy.   What a great role model for us in our walk with the Lord!

If you'd like to read the account of the leper you can click here.

There are a few things that stand out to me in that story of gratitude.

The leper glorified God in a loud voice.
His thanks and praise came from the depths of his soul.
There are so many things I can thank the Lord for on a daily basis.

When my husband was in the hospital in Korea after having 3 brain aneurysms (one of which hemmoraged) I heard the song by Laura Story called 'What a Saviour' through my streaming phone.

While driving to visit him in the hospital, I sang that song between sobs as a prayer to the Lord as loud as I could.
I know it sounded horrible, was unintelligible and was more like wailing,
But it was my heart's prayer and there was no one to hear me but my Lord.  God was there inhabiting my praise.

In spite of the darkness God was still good to me.

He fell down at the feet of Jesus in surrender.
Surrender is like fresh rain to a thirsty soul.
It's like being cleansed all over again.
A new beginning.

He gave Thanks.
This one's pretty simple.
His mercy turns us into grateful people
Have you thanked Him today?

This song by Watermark has been in my heart for the past few weeks.  Yes,  it's time that we give Him honor!

My Bible's Endpaper and Presentation Page

I'd love to say I knew what an endpaper was,  but the truth is I had to google it just a second ago.
Yes,  that's very true!!!
I've never studied the anatomy of a book and I have learned something new today.

Well, I'm definitely not an artist but I do like to share!
My inspiration for my endpaper and presentation was a piece of scrap booking paper I picked up at Michael's for about 59 cents.
I fussy cut the various designs, laid them out and took pictures of all of the elements in various positions so I can have a bit of variety to choose from.  But the main reason is so I wouldn't forget.  ha!

These little word stickers are from Tim Holtz and can be found at any local craft store.

I took the plunge and drew out these messy roses to fill in some blank spaces.  I was sweating bullets.

When I fussy cut around the roses I left quite a bit of edge and wasn't really paying close attention to detail.
It took little to no time to put it together and I just LOVE the vintage feel of this paper!
Here's my presentation page...
...and a full shot of both pages open flat.
